Funding Again Advances in Congress; 750 Museums Sign Fieldwide Letter So Far

A Positive Step! Today, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would provide $231 million for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This development comes just one day after the committee approved $145 million for the National Endowment for the Arts and $145 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities—directly contradicting President Trump’s FY18 budget proposal to eliminate these agencies. The full U.S. House, the Senate Appropriations Committee, and the full U.S. Senate have yet to take action.
Let’s Keep the Pressure On! Over 750 museums and related organizations have already signed our fieldwide letter to Congress.

Has yours?

The Deadline to Sign the Letter is Friday, July 21. This will enable us to get a final copy of the letter sent to every office on Capitol Hill before the House leaves for August recess at the end of next week.
Please Note that the letter is only for museums and related organizations. Please only sign your organization on to this letter if you are authorized to do so. Individuals are encouraged to use AAM’s customizable tools to contact their members of Congress.
Thank you, Partners! Thank you to our partner organizations in this effort, including AAMD, AASLH, ACM, AIC, APGA, ASTC, AZA, and NCH, and the dozens of national, regional, and state museum associations that have already signed the letter.
